Directors Bio: After graduating Brown University, Nelson began working on documentaries for Discovery Channel, History Channel, and PBS’s NOVA. His first film, “iThemba|Hope” – a documentary about an HIV-positive choir from South Africa – aired on Sundance Channel in 2005. Nelson has worked as a visiting instructor of filmmaking at Tibet University in Lhasa, and is a contributor to the Tibetan Himalayan Digital Library. His most recent film, “Lumo” – a portrait of a young Congolese woman recovering from traumatic fistula – garnered him a Student Academy Award and the President's Award at the Full Frame Film Festival. In September 2007, “Lumo” made its television debut as part of the P.O.V. series on PBS. Nelson is currently co-director of the Kham Film Project with Lynn True, and a project director at the Maysles Institute. |
