Set against the backdrop of the 1986 space shuttle Challenger tragedy, the film explores the subtleties of friendship at an age when the search for identity is just beginning to take shape.

Directors Bio: Jen Heck was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. She moved to Singapore in the early-80s, where she attended Singapore American School and hung around with a pair of twins, a German kid whose dad had a Delorian, her sister Danielle, and a one-eyed cat. Since then (and in part owing to that experience, and more), Jen has had work at major film festivals including Sundance, The Hamptons, Sao Paulo, and Palm Springs, at museums including the Whitney (Biennial 2004) and MoMA, and on networks including MTV, Bravo, and VH1. She remains a friend of animals and, despite a mild problem with claustrophobia, would love a chance to go to space. Salamander was shot at the Catholic school Jen attended in the later-80s and is the actual place that she witnessed the Challenger explode. |
